This class begins with a face. We’ll start by creating the spirit of our figure—using abstract elements we will be hand stitching a face that feels like someone waiting to be known. From there, we’ll begin building her form in a series of connected fabric sections, allowing the piece to grow in an intuitive and layered way. Fabric becomes our language. Through hand stitching, painted details, and simple surface design techniques, we’ll create a small sequence of story-filled segments that extend from the face—forming the beginning of a rollable figure that can be continued long after class ends. This is a piece that holds both the visible and the hidden. You may choose to include a symbolic detail, a quiet mark, or something personal stitched into your layers. Each addition becomes part of her story—whether shared or kept just for you. Along the way, we’ll explore:-creating expressive faces using mixed media and/or stitch-building a soft, flexible structure in connected sections- simple fabric surface design techniques- hand stitching as both mark-making and connection- working intuitively without overthinking My roll- up class sample measures 42” By the end of class, you’ll have a completed face and the beginning of a layered, roll-up figure—along with the tools and inspiration to continue growing your piece at home. All experience levels are welcome. Gently… we’ll let her begin
