Explore the beautiful and rewarding world of botanicals as you discover a variety of techniques in preserving and showcasing flowers and plants. Your creative work will be treasured in an original art journal you create and will be filled with explorations of sketching, herbariums, stencilling, art journaling, self expression, poetry, hand stitching, painting, stamping and collaging. You will be able to make this truly your own no matter what level you are at, creating a beautifully organic treasure to take home.
Materials Fee $20 paid at beginning of class includes:
- a few pressed flowers and leaves (try and bring your own also)
- vintage text paper
- pdfs: botanicals, flowers, poetry, postcards
- scrap paper
- mixed media paper
- watercolour papers 9 x 12 inches each
- vintage floral paper
- cotton muslin fabric
- waxed thread and needle for book binding (Use the same needle as for stitching)
- paper towels
- triangle sponge
- vintage paper clips
- under paper

- acrylic ink: Transparent Burnt Umber (Liquitex), Carbon Black (Liquitex) , Quinachrodone Magenta, White, Marine Blue, Process Magenta

- tape for the book spine

- a vintage book with a spine intact (the covers should be large enough to cover 4 1/2 x 6 inch pages.
- scissors
- sharp x-acto knife or sharp tool for cutting book
- heat tool
- palette knife (long, if possible)
- black archival pens for drawing
- white and gold Signo Uniball pens
- small brush for making splatters
- aqua brush or small, fine tipped water color brush
- small and medium water color brushes
- pencil, eraser
- awl for book binding (or a sharp pointy tool)
- gel medium
- old brush for gel medium
- 1-2 vintage postcards or envelope if you have them
- palette tray to hold inks
- watersoluable pastels: 1 light aqua, 3 shades of pink (light, medium and dark) and 2 shades of green (light and dark)
- bone folder
- black Stabilo pencil
- wet wipes
- apron
Optional items:
- gloves (to protect hands from inks)
- pencil sharpener
- poetry about plants and flowers (some will be provided)
- double sided tape (to use instead of gel medium in areas)
- paper trimmer to cut paper into pages
