Intro Into Metal Clay

Metal clay consists of fine silver, water and an organic binder. It is a clay-like substance that can be rolled, sculpted and cut into almost any shape. It can be combined with many materials, including fireable gemstones. After firing, using either a torch/bunsen burner or a kiln, the water and binder burn away, leaving only precious, fine silver. Jewelry made of metal clay can be worn and enjoyed for many years.

: If you have always been curious about this fascinating medium but haven’t had the chance to try it, this class is for you. Students will learn the basics about working with this material, then will design and make a pendant or pair of dangle earrings. They will then learn to torch fire their pieces so that they can continue their metal clay journey at home, even if they do not have a kiln. 

Materials Fee $12 paid at beginning of class includes:

Findings as needed, polishing cloth, small sanding pad set, worksurface, patina, use of all tools, textures and supplies
